Barbie: Princess Adventure is the 37th animated feature film that features the character of Barbie and Princess Amelia of Floravia, as well as the second film in the Dreamhouse Adventures series after Barbie: Dolphin Magic. The film will be released on September 1, 2020 in the United States on Netflix and is directed by Conrad Helten. In France, the film’s release date remains unknown but the French version of the film is only available on Netflix in the United States. A trailer was released on July 26, 2020 on Barbie’s official YouTube account. Plot Barbie: Princess Adventure (2020)In Malibu, Barbie and her friend Daisy shoot a music video for their song “Tente Ta Chance”. Barbie wears a wig in the video and uploads it so the song can inspire people. She also submits it to Rose Ross, who is the world’s largest producer of online content. In Floravia, Princess Amelia sees the video and notices that Barbie looks like her while wearing the wig. Amelia’s royal advisor, Alfonso, tells her that she is not ready to make her own decisions, and that he will decide everything until she is. Amélia is organizing a one-week visit to her country for the students of Barbie’s school, as part of a Malibu-Floravia cultural exchange. Principal Miller announces that the invited students are Ken, Trey, Renée, Teresa, Daisy, Ned and Ted, and finally Barbie. After Barbie finds out about this trip, she receives a call from Rose. Rose tells Barbie that she will put Barbie’s vlog on one of her channels if Barbie can meet her criteria. When Barbie leaves for the trip, she makes a direct to the airport. Barbie’s family and her puppies see her go. Barbie’s dog, Taffy, runs after Barbie when she leaves. The other puppies run around the airport, and Barbie’s sisters grab them all except Taffy. Taffy sneaks into Barbie’s backpack. Rose phones Barbie before the plane takes off to tell her that her vlog was wrong. Rose tells her that Barbie absolutely has to change if she is to satisfy the new subscribers Rose can provide for her. Barbie and her friends arrive in Floravia and can’t wait to be in a new place. When they are driven to the palace, where they will spend the week, Barbie discovers that Taffy has followed them. Alfonso greets them, and Taffy sees Amelia’s bunny, Snowy. Taffy chases Snowy, and Barbie follows them to Amelia’s secret living room. She meets Amélia, who says she wants to inspire people like Barbie does with her vlogs. Amelia tells Barbie that her life is completely in control so that she can have a perfect public image, but that she would like to be herself. Amelia says she arranged to meet Barbie so they could swap places for a week, due to their identical appearances. They strike a deal after Amelia agrees to do a vlogging post with Barbie, and agrees not to tell anyone except Barbie’s friends. A guard, Reggie, eavesdrops and sees Amelia sneaking out of the palace in ordinary clothes. Barbie dresses up as Amelia and goes to a pre-coronation party with Renée, Daisy, Teresa and Nikki. Barbie is photographed and interviewed, and she meets Prince Johan, owner of the yacht. He tells Barbie that the yacht is also owned by Floravia as their countries will unite at the coronation. The girls return to the palace. Alfonso tells Barbie that she was pictured dressed as Amelia while wearing a personalized “Barbie” necklace, so he figured out what was going on and removed the photo from the press paper. He says situations like this are the reason he needs to be in control at all times. Alfonso tells Barbie that she will continue to be Amelia under his watch, until he finds the real princess. Barbie takes off her necklace. Barbie phones Amelia and tells her that Alfonso knows she’s gone. Amelia says she will be back in time for her coronation. Rose phones Barbie and asks her what Barbie is working on. Barbie can’t reveal it yet, so Rose reminds her that there is a lot of pressure from a potential sponsor. The next day, Barbie participates in a royal horse show instead of Amélia. She performs with Morning Star, the princess’ personal horse. After the show, Barbie also has to do a palace photoshoot, a tour of the royal orphanage, a dress fitting, and more. Barbie tells Alfonso that he should give Amelia more credit for handling her busy schedule, and that he should listen to her more. Barbie meets a little girl, who asks her for a picture. Barbie tells her that their meeting shouldn’t be filmed and that they should instead make memories together. Amelia and Barbie chat at the end of the day, and talk about how hectic she was. Amelia had fun exploring Floravia and learning more about herself. Barbie interviews Amelia for her vlog, and Amelia says that she is feeling herself for the first time in her life. Nikki, Renée, Teresa and Daisy are shopping, and Barbie tells Ken that she has to attend the coronation rehearsal with Johan. After Trey sees Ken talking to Barbie, he tells her to introduce him to the princess. Trey says he and Amelia could rule together if he was King of Floravia. While Barbie’s friends shop and explore Floravia, Barbie attends the coronation preparations with Johan. They repeat a traditional dance which reconstitutes the treaty between the countries of Amelia and Johan, and perform it during the coronation which will formalize the submission of his country to the Floravia. When Amelia is crowned queen, the countries will unite and Amelia will reign over both countries. After Barbie leaves, Johan dons Amelia’s crown and Taffy growls at him. Johan says he will do whatever needs to be done until he is the ruler of Floravia instead of Amelia. While Amelia is walking around in Floravia, she is kidnapped and separated from Snowy. Barbie fails to contact the princess, and tells Ken that she is overwhelmed with Amelia’s schedule and wants to go home. Nikki, Teresa, Daisy and Renée are having a sleepover party for Barbie, but they hear scratching and footsteps. They search a closet to find Snowy and discover that the closet contains a passage that leads to Amelia’s secret living room. As they hide in the closet, they hear Reggie and another guard pick up Snowy, and they realize that Amelia is in trouble. Barbie and her friends come up with a plan to go their separate ways and search for the princess. Barbie’s friends plan to use scooters to search the town, and Barbie sets out to find Alfonso. She is interrupted by a phone call from Rose. Rose shows Barbie an edited version of her interview with Amelia, where their words have been taken out of context to sound superficial. Rose says the video will make Barbie famous, but Barbie ends her contract with Rose, saying she’s going to be herself and make her own decisions. While Barbie and Taffy search for Alfonso, Johan and his guards find Barbie. Johan knows that Barbie is posing as Amelia because he saw Barbie’s necklace at the yacht party. He says he’s going to keep Barbie on the yacht during the coronation, so Barbie realizes that’s where Amelia is. Johan’s guards take Barbie away, but she escapes and goes to the yacht with Morning Star. Johan sends his men in pursuit of Barbie. Barbie gets on the yacht with Morning Star, and ties her necklace to Morning Star’s rein. Barbie tells Morning Star to let her friends know where she is. At the coronation, Alfonso gets caught by Johan’s men at the coronation. Barbie gets on the yacht and finds herself stuck with Amelia. Barbie says she’s glad they swapped places because they were inspired by each other to stay true to themselves and know they are making a difference. They escape and are found by Nikki and Teresa, who have access to a speedboat. They bring Barbie and Amelia back to the shore. Johan’s men pursue Barbie, Amelia, and Snowy as they ride Morning Star to the crown. Before Johan can be crowned, he receives a phone call letting him know that Barbie and Amelia have escaped. Renée and Daisy use scooters to prevent Johan’s men from reaching Barbie and Amelia. At the coronation, Johan says that according to the law, the fact that Amelia does not appear means that both kingdoms pass to her. Barbie and Amelia arrive as Ken sends Taffy to snatch the crown from Johan’s hands. Barbie grabs the crown. Amelia tells the people of Floravia that Johan is trying to deny them their rightful ruler, but that she is ready to become queen. She orders Johan’s arrest. Alfonso crowns Amelia as queen, and she tells him that she wants to start a royal vlog, written and produced by her, so that she can speak directly to her people. Alfonso says she’s already ready. She thanks Barbie for inspiring her. Ken asks Barbie to dance, and Teresa broadcasts the party live. Barbie’s family is watching live at home, and Rose Ross is furious that Barbie has a billion views on live. Barbie and Amelia reflect on how they feel more upbeat and confident after swapping places.
